Defining My Style

It's hard for me to define my style sometimes. Ok, maybe that's not exactly true.  I can define it - kind of - coastal/classic/farmhouse.
It's the execution of what that means that I have trouble with.

I think I could probably decorate more easily if i started with the right setting...

I mean, who wouldn't know exactly what to do with THAT, right??

But, I'm in a typical Florida stucco house, that has no resemblance (forget scale, I'm talking more about style) to anything close to farmhouse.

And we're not staying here forever.  We are going to Georgia (we think), to be near the sea, and the salt marshes, when our youngest graduates.

But thankfully, I have some time before that happens, and I have to decorate THIS house in the meantime.  And it's confounding me.

I'm supposed to be focusing on getting dining room furniture. But I'm finding it super difficult.

I want classic.  Maybe even antiques? I need/want it to go with this house, and the house after this one.  I don't want to make a mistake that looks dated in 10 years.
But is that even possible?

I have fallen in love with this room - pretty, no?

I love everything about it EXCEPT the rounded corners on the table.
Love the hutch - looks old but isn't.
Love the parsons chairs on the sides.
Love the seagrass!
Love the WALLPAPER.
Love the cream drapes.

but I have scoured the internet and cannot find such a table setting..
I found this....it's the Better Homes and Gardens Line by Universal.
No idea about the quality....

But i can't decide if it looks too modern or not? Love the hutch though.  Here it is with a round table and I really like it that way....

And here is a trusty source...Ethan Allen.  I know, right?  I drool every time I look at this picture. Unfortunately, I think just the table is $3500.  Just look at that monogrammed chair.
I want it sooo bad.

And last, here is the one we originally chose.  Paula Deen, also Universal. I really liked it in the store, but I really like the above style better.  This might be too country?  Our bedroom is Paula Deen - and I love it, but I just am too confused....

Decisions, decisions, decisions.
I do not make them well.

  1. Dining rooms are so difficult. Especially if you are like us, you don't spend that much time in there but you want it to look nice! I tend to lean more towards a classic look but I like updated things mixed in. That first picture is just perfect in my opinion! I am loving all the textures and colors. Good luck deciding!
