Growing up right.
I'm linking over to my vf Vanessa's blog today for Inspiration Fridays - sharing what inspired me this week.
This is what inspires me. Keeps me motivated to keep going. Keep trying. This boy (and his brother).
A mom came up to me this week just to tell me thank you, that this boy - this sweet child of mine - had really made her son feel welcome and included. She had mentioned that there were some cliques in the neighborhood, but Walker had really reached out to her son.
It meant a lot to her - but you know what - it meant just as much to me, if not more. knowing that he listens, he gets it. He's got compassion. Oh sweet, sweet boy. I'm so proud of you. So much.
We all strive to get our kids to listen. Be good. Make good grades. Stand up straight. No sass. But you wonder if it's sinking in at all. At least i do. Daily. I hear myself and shudder sometimes. Other times, i lay in bed at night replaying conversation or "discussions" with the wee ones and what i should have done or said, not what i did. How i could have handled something better. Wondering if they're already tuning me out.
Thanks Walker for not just listening, but hearing. and doing. and being you. Mommy loves you so much.
You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. - Deuteronomy 11:19

Rebel Yell
I missed Open House at the school last night.
Ok, that's not exactly true. I ignored Open House at the school last night.
I don't know if you can tell from some of my previous posts but I'm kind of over that whole school thing. I know, mother of the year, right?
I also have a parent teacher meeting to discuss my oldest son's EAP plan for this year. I'm not going to that either. His dad can do it.
I was walking the kids up to the school yesterday ( it appears my youngest son was embarrassed to be seen climbing over the pillows, comforters and other misc crap i was taking to Goodwill to get out of the car in front of the patrols so i had to park and walk him in. Princess. hrmph.) and one of the other moms that i know asked me if i was going last night and when i said no, i could see it in her eyes. Jealousy.
Oh, sweet girl, trust me, you too can just.say.no. It's ok.
And did i tell you they ask you to get a sitter for your kids so that this can be 'quality time' between you and their teachers.
I'm sorry, are you saying you want me, a working mom, to get a sitter, and give up my time after work that I spend with my kids in order to spend it with you so you can tell me about my kids? Uhm...no thanks. I'll pass.
Oh, and they only allow you 15 minutes in the class before they ring the bell and you're supposed to change classes and go to your other kid's (or kids') class to spend another 15 minutes of quality time with 30 other parents and the teacher. Whatev.
The last time i went to open house, i wrote it about here. I don't think much has changed, but i wasn't going to risk my time finding out. Just say no, people, just.say.no.

Never give up
Be strong in the Lord and never give up hope -
You're going to do great things I already know
God's got His hand on you so don't live life in fear,
Forgive and forget but don't forget why you're here...
Take your time and pray these are the words I would say.
Beautiful Words by Sidewalk Prophets
Baseball tryouts today for my youngest. He was so nervous he didn't sleep the night before and hardly ate breakfast this morning. But even the smallest trials and tests matter - His eye is on the tiniest of sparrows, right?

This is Serious Business, Ma'am.
Doesn't he look like he's pouring over numbers and spreadsheets? I almost expect to hear him say he found a solution to the financial crisis.
Yesterday was BYKTWD. Not familiar with that acronym? It was Bring Your Kid To Work Day. :)
That made it a little harder for us since we both work from home and there is no WOW factor for them. Well, aside from the fact that they got to stay home from school.
I did not make him dress up - he decided to do that on his own - my little accountant. He actually hates numbers. I did, however, make him do research on my company, and do a report on who we are, what we do and what countries we are in.
He also had to write down our org chart and look up our CEOs and VP names, and also create a very small industry term dictionary.
Let's just say he was ready to go back to school this am LOL.
Now, this one? He had it MUCH easier. First of all, note the attire. That is business casual, or Spongebob Business casual. Spongebob football jersey? check!
Secondly, hanging with the sales division (aka known as Vance) - life is good. It's all about getting the client, parties, girls, dinner, drinks...you know how those sales people roll. Just kidding about the girls. He was a little disappointed in that. So was Vance.
Anyway, another day in the books for our working class :)
