Keep or Take Back?

Help - have i lost my mind on this?

It's not what i would normally gravitate to but I saw it and I fell.in.love.  But you know, we all can fall in love for the wrong reasons. But oh, i heart it so....

Remember my inspiration pic?  Have I strayed too far?
I mean, it's not stripes.  I haven't painted my door yet either.  Is it too... contemporary? It does have it's issues too - like the door won't clear the darn rug.  The bottom sweep on the door would have to be cut.  That is irritating me.

But it makes me happy just to look at it.  Stupid i know, but it's a happy rug, what can i say - small things people.  And you can't tell from this awful lighting but it looks gorgeous against the wall color, and it has a great olive color that the living room rug works with....
And i AM going for a cottage feel....and Pottery Barn did use a similar rug in this bedroom that I've been carrying around for ages....

And then here's another but....we aren't getting rid of this rug anytime soon - like years...and my house has no walls so everything flows from one room to another - so am i jumping too many styles here in too short a space?  Like when you're at the piano (pic above) - you're looking at this to your right  (below)

So...that's my dilemma....should i just start over?

  1. Oooooh, I love it! I vote that it stays! I don't know any official rules on rugs, but I am going with the "If I like it, that's what counts" approach this year. I love it's color {which is right on track with the inspiration photo} and that it has the blues and some fun color thrown in. It is annoying that the door can't clear it - why does a rug at the door have to be so difficult??!!

  3. Hey friend! First let me just say thank you for your sweet comments on my post. You gave me some great encouragement! Secondly, I love that rug and if it makes you happy than there is your answer. You can even just live with it for a little while and see how you like the combo of the rugs. The colors work well together and my favorite spaces are ones with many different patterns and textures! You'll know when you know!

  4. I love that rug if you can figure out how to make it work! I saw one at HomeGoods and almost brought it home for my sewing room but that room will be the last room to get done so the rug stayed.

  6. I really like that rug! No, dont' take it back...you will always wonder about it...kind of like an old boyfriend from high school! lol Keep the rug. It has a lot of color in it and really brightens the space. It is lovely. I too love Sarah's House and have drooled over that picture myself. It is soooooo welcoming.

Also, thank you so much for following along on the journey of our remodel and for your encouragement today. Your paint comment made me laugh out loud. If you are feeling like repainting and your like the color I chose, it is Sherwin Williams Samovar Silver. It sometimes looks more blue and sometimes looks silver depending on the light and time of day. I really like paint that does that! Your home is so pretty. I LOVE your front doors...dreamy.

We get our kitchen cabinets later this week and they are hanging them next week so check back!

  7. I say keep it! Think, every time you walk into your house it will make you smile :) What better reason? And I think you could add in some stripes in oter ways in the entry way to tie it to your inspiration photo. -Erin

  8. I don't mean to stir the pot Sheri, but you asked. First of all, the rug is very pretty and the only reason I am saying this is because you sound just like me. I get an idea in my head that I really want and then veer off the path only to wish I hadn't. Do you really want stripes? If you do, then you should stick with that. Dash & Albert rugs are gorge & I'm pretty sure your door would clear so the door problem would go away. Also, it seems to bother you that the rug in the adjacent room is too similar? Your entry looks great with everything you have done. Did this help you or make it worse? (sorry :) )

  9. I Love the rug ,but I definitley think that you need to paint the door also it needs something else to anchor it to that space ,but I really love the warmth!
